Members of the Team Tonga for the XIX Commonwealth Games have arrived safely to Delhi yesterday according to report from Hiko Fungavaka, Team General Manager. They were temporarily accommodated at the Ashok Hotel before relocating to their quarter at the Games Village later in the afternoon.
There are still members traveling to Delhi from their overseas bases including ‘Amini Fonua who will join them direct from United States and Mike O’Shannassy who is currently in Uruguay for the FINA General Assembly.
The Attaché to the Tongan Team, Michael Crismale, has arrived in Dubai and will join the team on Friday.
Hiko mentioned that they are short with one boxer, ‘Asima Fifita, who is based in the US but supposed to join them in Auckland on Monday.
The team has also met the Tonga Honorary Consul to India, HE Mr Desh Sahae and things are looking good both on the ground and the preparation to date for the Opening this Sunday.
Further, Hiko and ‘Amanaki Fakakovikaetau, Chef de Mission have conducted their Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM) which is very important in every Games in which they confirmed who is attending and who is not.
All members of the team are in good state and well so as the officials and the Hon. Lasike who is the Manager for the Boxing team.
Tonga will compete in Archery, Boxing, Rugby 7’s, Swimming and Weightlifting.
